Worse flu season is expected this year, which could combine with Covid to create a dangerous “twin"

Dr Susan Hopkins, chief medical adviser at the UK Health Security Agency, urges people to take steps to protect themselves against infection.

Dr Simon Clarke, associate professor in cellular microbiology at Reading University, said: “We’ve never had a [flu and Covid] dual outbreak so I’m concerned this UK season could be particularly bad. Catching flu and Covid together is particularly dangerous.

Can we take and learn something from Australia's experience?

More than 223,000 flu cases were reported in Australia this year. They included 295 deaths and 1,763 hospital admissions.

In 2021, only 512 cases were recorded. There were no deaths.

Prof Booy said: “Flu came early this year, which was unusual, and it peaked quickly, then went away fast. “Whereas previously it had been spread over three months, this time it was more like six to eight weeks. That was because we think a lot of viruses came back this year."

“All these viruses were spreading like crazy and competing with each other, so the combination of all of them led to a bad respiratory season.”

Now is the time to start thinking about how best to prepare and protect ourselves.

With less exposure to viruses over the past 2 years it leaves everyone more susceptible to the common bugs and viruses out there. Halotherapy is antibacterial and a fantastic way to help kill foreign bugs, bacteria and pathogens.

In the past, I have always been a little anxious when winter approaches, knowing that I would no doubt end up with yet another cold, or worse still it would develop into a lung infection. Typically, every winter I would end up with that raw feeling which then went into my lungs and manifested itself into a relentless cough that I just couldn’t shake (and often a fair amount of phlegm to go with it) taking weeks and sometimes months to finally resolve. Since using Halotherapy regularly and consistently for the past 4 years, I have not had a single lung infection, something which has really made a huge difference for me.

It is amazing how much not being able to breathe properly can affect your every-day activities. Those with long term respiratory conditions such as asthma, COPD, long covid and cystic fibrosis know only too well the impact it can have on even just simple tasks.

Sports people and athletes can also benefit hugely from Halotherapy, as it can assist in protecting them from many germs and pathogens, especially when their bodies are depleted from intense training.

With its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, Halotherapy is a great natural way to help fend off, reduce the severity and alleviate the effects of a cold, especially congestion and sore throat. It helps kill the bacteria, loosens mucus and reduces inflammation.

While you’re still healthy, or if you’re starting to just notice the beginning stages of a cold, is the best time to use salt therapy as a preventative remedy. Safe for all ages and drug free, halotherapy has got to be something worth considering.

As they say, prevention is better than cure!!
